People injured in accidents involving vehicles insured in British Columbia may be entitled to reasonable disbursements associated with their claims. Disbursements are expenses incurred by the law firm acting on your behalf to proceed with your claim. Disbursements include things like court filing fees, medical-legal reports, photocopies, faxes and scans, and other costs associated with advancing your claim.

If your claim goes to court for resolution by a judge or jury, costs associated with advancing your claim may be payable by solely by ICBC. If you share in the responsibility for the accident, the disbursement expenses may be partially repayable by ICBC.

An experienced lawyer can help you understand the intricacies of disbursement expenses, and the merits of your claim. When you become a client, make sure you ask up front about how costs and disbursements are handled by your personal injury lawyer.
